"Understood, this shouldn't affect my research..."

Loric suppressess an eye-twitch and mumbles to himself.
"So ironic for me to be assigned north right after Miya came here..."

"After two weeks there, submit a list of what you'll need to shore up the defenses, there. Can't have one of our adamantium mines falling to giants. Make what preparations you need; it will be very cold, there."

Okay, in future, maybe you guys can post if you don't want to do anything more before you do something.
You arrive at the camp. It has wooden walls, with some stone ones. It's built near a cliff/moutain, which provides one of the walls. It is a few miles across, and it is very cold.

Rolled a 32 on my Wisdom Check to learn about fortification / siege defence etcetc

You realize that the city has a tiered layout, where the center of it has the highest roofs, allowing archers to shoot those on other roofs. You notice that the stone walls are outside the wooden walls, and probably still under construction.

Adrasteia scribbles down a list, muttering to herself.
"O.k so we need some archers, the better to repel invaders, the stone walls fixed...maybe some anti siege weapons on the wall..hmm, since its so cold, maybe we could make a wall of ice built around or in front of the stone wall, for extra defences...would need a decanterof endless water."

"That decanter would actually be quite useful in general. Another defense we might consider is boiling oil down the outside walls. Although with how cold it is, a simple tank of water could be effective as well..."

Loric still seems bitter about this transfer and is looking longingly into a purple crystal ball.
"..."
"We need to boobytrap every chokepoint with bombs. For anti-siege weapons we can use cannons with True Strike magi operating them. Magic and technology, that'll be the key..."

Adrasteia moves to the next part of the mine, noting down how much food and water it had, how long that would last in the event of a siege, and if stocks needed replenishing. With that done, she looks at the mountain side, and the path leading up to the mining camp. She wondered if it would be possible to have cliffs surrounding the route around the path, so you could have archers or siege weapons elevated above the path, reading to strafe an attacking force from left, right, and from the front on. Furthermore, she wondered if you could possibly collapse such cliffs via explosives in a last ditch effort to bury the path, and the invading force under tons of rock, certainly explosive traps were at least possible to implement somewhere.
Gazing up at the mountain, Adrasteia reflected upon Loric's scorched earth battlefield policy, and wondered that if the battle was lost a defending force could trigger an avalanche and bury the camp, denying it from anyone else's use.
Lastly, for her own interest, Adrasteia examined the mine itself, sketching out provisional plans for defences that defenders of the camp could fall back towards within the mine itself. As she worked, she attempted to familiarise herself with the processes used within the mine, as well as its legal system, wondering if it could be used to benefit the defence of the camp. If nothing else, she reasoned that learning how a mine worked could be useful in the future if she ever had to infiltrate one.
