Encindal sighed and said "Fine, I suppose we can do it that way. I just know devils have a knack for making something seemingly insignificant have a profound impact at some point in time."
"Hmm, I just can never understand that," Nora mused "if a contract makes you do something that will hurt other 'citizens', then to h*** with the contract. Just make sure the contract, if any, isn't some kind of magical deal that will do nasty things if you disobey it. I like being able to get out of bad situations."

"Hmm. Well, we do not believe that the church of Asmodeus knows just how in with Mammon Acardian Drovenge is. It is possible that we would be able to provide this information to the church leaders to prevent future favors being asked of us."

... It might be worth speaking with them tomorrow. I could prepare a Commune spell and ask after that, among other useful things.

Dinner Time: Evening of Day 6
Salvatore: “Ah, good. An inn. Uh, nothing left to do today, right?” Rianne: “There is nothing left that I can think of.” Salvatore: “Right… I’m gonna head in and see if I can forget… how cruel of that Doppelganger… *shudder*, to so remind me of Claudio like that… My greatest failure.” Rianne: “You knew Claudio? The real one? I recall hearing something of him in relation to Delvehaven, but not much.” Salvatore: “Yes. Want to join me for a drink or five? Not to mention a dinner. I’ll tell you at the table.” Rianne: “Alright, sure.” *at the table* Salvatore: “Claudio was a … good man. He was a Paladin of Iomedae. He was a good friend of mine. Sure, he almost exclusively trained his body over his mind, but he was still good at fighting, which is what his job was - especially since I was there as a brains of the operation.” *Drains first ale* “Another round, please!” Salvatore pauses, nibbling at his food until the next ale arrives. “But… there was one thing he could not defend well against. In Delvehaven, we faced a corrupted Triceratops skeleton. It was infused with shadow and unlife. We used our standard lack of noticeable tactics against it. It downed Claudio in less than half a minute. It had power… a terrible, evil power. The others… weakened it. And so, I was able to destroy it with a single lucky spell immediately after it killed Claudio. The wrath of Iomedae at losing a Paladin to a mindless undead, perhaps? Or simply divine aid in a time of need? I know not. But… I could have prevented Claudio’s death… And the world is down by a good man for my carelessness… and quieter, too. Iomedae and the Archons help me, but I miss his voice.” Rianne: “It sounds like you already did everything you could though,” Rianne says, finishing her glass of wine and setting it down. Salvatore: (Downs ale #2) “Another round, please.” *waits for round 3* “No… there was so much I didn’t do. I could have cast Searing Light at first. I could have ordered no one to approach it until I gave a strategy. I could have had a scroll of Hide From Undead. I could have done so much. I could have used the walls for guerilla tactics. Use the small gaps as sniper holes to channel energy from - Claudio was strong enough to do this, too. The two of us could have destroyed it, possibly without any injury. And yet… Claudio is dead.” Rianne: “As they say, hindsight is everything. When I started out, I at least had my peers to look to for advice, and they taught me to be prepared. You have had to learn this, this lesson, the hard way sadly,” Rianne says, finishing her (2nd) glass of wine. Salvatore: *Downs ale #3* “Yeah. … I should probably be thinking more of how to keep everyone alive than reminiscing about the past… Another round, please!” Rianne: Rianne takes a sip of wine and says, “I have learned that preparedness is indeed one of the best ways to go about this. The more prepared you are, the more likely you are to be able to respond effectively, and the less likely you are to be a hinderance,” Rianne says, and finishes her (3rd) glass of wine. Salvatore: *Downs Ale #4* “Yeah… I’ve got a lot more scrolls than I did then. And a lot more spells. *Looks at empty ale cup* This can’t be good for me… [Create Water]. How could we prepare?” Rianne: “You’re right, its probably not very good for you. This wine is from the bottle they gave us, but I don’t know what they’re getting that ale from. I’d suggest you drink the wine instead,” Rianne says, refilling her glass. Salvatore: “Right. You remember how I held my liquor better last time…?” *downs the water* Rianne: “You were a perfect gentleman,” Rianne says, finishing her (4th) glass of wine. Salvatore: *Fills a wine cup* “I’m letting the ale affect me more than I let the wine last time… Maybe I can forget what happened until morning, when I’ll be in a better state of mind” *downs wine, 5th drink and 1st wine)* Rianne: “You asked a question I recall. Do you remember what it was?” Salvatore: *refills cup, but does not start on it* “Uh… something about how to best prepare” Rianne: “Hmm...Having a backup plan and a way out are good things to have...though I will admit that the more magic I learn, the more I have been slacking on those,” Rianne says, finishing her (5th) glass of wine. Salvatore: *Downs 6th cup, refills* (Salvatore’s speech has become much slower, as if he has to concentrate on his words) “Well, I have Boots of Teleportation… You know Dimension Door… I think Encindal knows something to escape… we’ve got plenty of escape if worst comes to worst. Not sure what to do about back-ups; we’re a team of mostly spellcasters..” Rianne: “Well, I have found that a good back-up is often to summon many things, and let them sort it out,” Rianne says as she finishes her (6th) glass of wine. Salvatore: “Heh, I have some of those summons, too. Did you see the Giant Scorpion I summoned?” *downs 7th glass, refills, finishes meal* “Maybe it’s just the ale and wine, but you seem a bit different… and I feel a bit different…” Rianne: “Its probably the food,” Rianne says, refilling her glass, “I think this is the first time I’ve eaten in months.” Salvatore: “Oh, you realize how your skirt goes with flying, right? Especially if you fly over stairs someone might want to use?” Rianne: “No. What do you mean by that?” Salvatore: “You don’t want anyone to get a view under your skirt, do you?” Rianne: Rianne tilts her head and asks, “And did you?” Salvatore: “I was more concerned with the assassin, and with not bumping into you, since that might have impacted both our concentrations… Though I did see halfway up your thighs.” Rianne: Rianne slowly nods as she finishes her (7th) glass of wine “That can happen if somebody is looking up as I fly over.” Salvatore: “Yes, but don’t you care” *blushes a little* Rianne: “Mhmm, right. I do not mind terribly, though I made certain my skirt is heavy enough to stay in place.” Salvatore: “… I think I’m finally drunk, but I still remember what happened… considering what’s happened… I think I’ll go for an eighth…” *downs it, pauses for a bit* “This is a curious sensation… I might want to retire before I say something I’ll regret, like how good you’d look horizontally and in nothing at all…” Salvatore pauses. “Um, did I just say that out loud?” Rianne: Rianne laughs and says, “Hmm, do you think so?” Rianne says, finishing her (8th) glass of wine. Salvatore: “You look perfectly beautiful as you are, though.” Rianne: Rianne giggles a little and says, “Thank you. You’re also pretty dashing yourself, you know.” Salvatore: “... We’d probably regret anything that follows if we both went that way… I need to soak my head…” Salvatore walks over to the innkeeper and pays the tab, then heads back towards his room. Rianne: Rianne follows Salvatore and says, “Well, it is a good thing I am COMPLETELY level-headed, otherwise we might be finding out how good the other looks in nothing and horizontal right now.” Salvatore: “I think you’re a lot closer to drunk than you realize… I’m … oof…” Rianne: Rianne slowly says, “I’m not drunk...hmm...you’d probably look good above me as well…” Salvatore: “Nothing… until we can think straight again. The ale and wine … may… have brought some thoughts to the front… but it can’t unbalance me that much.” Rianne: “Hmm...I feel a little unbalanced...could you help me walk to my room? I think I might...fall over otherwise.” Salvatore: “Sure, or would you rather I carry you? Ant Haul is always in effect on me…” Rianne: “Go right ahead,” Rianne says, moving right up next to Salvatore. Salvatore: *Picks up Rianne, goes upstairs, reaches her room* “Can you handle walking in on your own in this state?” Rianne: Putting her head against Salvatore's chest, Rianne smiles and says, "Do you want to risk me not being able to?" Salvatore: “Normally, I’d not enter a lady’s bedroom, but ok…” *Tucks Rianne in, kisses her* “Goodnight, Rianne” *turns to leave* Rianne: “Hmm...are you sure you want to…” she slowly says as she falls asleep. Salvatore: *laughs and leaves* fin.

Morning of Day 7:
(Rianne is bathing) Salvatore (alone, unaware of the above): Ugh, finally got my head clear… probably best if I soak it again… probably the rest of me, too, since I might have strained a muscle on the stairs carrying Rianne. Salvatore (now in washroom): “Wait, jewelry in here? This looks like … Rianne’s… *glances* AH! Rianne! Sorry! I didn’t realize you were in here already.” Rianne: Rianne looks over at Salvatore, chuckles and says “Oh, so you WERE serious about seeing me in nothing.” Salvatore: *blush, looks away* “Ah, no, this was just an accident… How about I just leave now, and maybe we pretend this didn’t happen? We might both prefer that as well in regards to last night, actually.” Rianne: “No, you’re fine here. I was finishing up, and will be out by the time you were to undress yourself.” Salvatore: *Still looking away* “I know we toed the line of propriety last night, but that shouldn’t change anything - nothing resulted of it, and we were both drunk.” Rianne: “I was only drunk because you let me drink so much. I’ve a soft spot for wine, which I thought you had noticed after the last time. You should not let me indulge like that.” Salvatore: *Still looking away* “I thought it was just not having any food in your stomach.” Rianne: “Well, it might have had a little to do with that. Usually I’m able to stop myself from drinking too much, but not around you it seems...I’d prefer it if you faced me when we speak, and not the wall.” Salvatore: *Still looking away* “Why would you want me to face you when you’re naked?” Rianne: “My state of undress has nothing to do with it; I prefer people look at me when speaking.” Salvatore: “... Oh, all right.” *turns to look, blushes* “But do you have no modesty? And do you realize how tempting it is -for anyone- to turn their gaze down from your face?” Rianne: “And are you?” she asks, and laughs at Salvatore’s blush, “No, you don’t need to answer that. I learned to live without modesty years ago.” Salvatore: “Tempted, yes. Looking down, no, but by sheer force of will only. What made you learn to live without it?” Rianne: “When I began work as part of the Society, I often worked with people I didn’t know terribly well. We often had time constraints, and it was not uncommon for personal space to be limited.” Salvatore: “It must have been tough and embarrassing at first… sort of like being in here right now.” Rianne: “It was, but that was a long time ago. In addition, you seem to be the only one embarrassed here.” Salvatore: “Erm, I guess that is correct… Let me know when to turn around when you get out, though, please. Also, you mentioned drinking too much with me… I have an idea for preventing a similar circumstance from happening.” Rianne: Rianne rolls her eyes, and says, “Go on,” as she gets out of the tub. Salvatore: *blushes severely* “We take turns not drinking more than a glass or two. If I can, in three tries, name an embarrassing situation for you, then you go first. If I fail, then I go first.” Rianne: “Alright, give it a try,” she says as she picks up a towel and begins to dry herself, “though I’ve mixed feelings about you letting me indulge myself again.” Salvatore: “First, trapped in a way that most magic cannot get you out, and you need to distract the guards, but the guards are somewhat lustful, but the only prisoner is you, so the only illusion they’d believe is of you, so the only way to escape is by distracting them with an illusion of yourself, as you are right now - quite nude.” Rianne: “I have, myself, led guards on before as a distraction for others. I would not be embarrassed to use such a trick.” Salvatore: “No modesty anymore, right… Second, someone walks in right now… *locks door* and gets all the wrong impressions.” Rianne: “If I did care what they thought, I would be able to convince them what is actually occurring. Failing that, at worst, rumors are only rumors,” she says, as she finishes drying herself. Salvatore: “Reputations can be fixed, eh? Third…” *kisses Rianne full on the mouth* Rianne: *A muffled sound of surprise escapes Rianne’s lips, and she blushes as she returns the kiss and puts her arms around Salvatore* Salvatore: *Returns the hug, and laughs* *pauses, hugging her for a good few moments* “As much as I love this moment and being with you, I’m not completely comfortable with you being naked right now, and you were wrapping up.” Rianne: Still blushing, Rianne laughs and says, “I’m sorry, but you caught me by surprise,” as she slowly lets go of Salvatore. Salvatore: *slowly lets go of Rianne* “That was part of the point of these three scenarios. Oh, and I guess I win, then.” *Laughs* “Don’t worry, though. I don’t want any more hangovers, so I’m going sober for a while.” Rianne: “You’re going to let me indulge myself for a few more nights? You’re terrible,” she says and gives Salvatore a kiss on his cheek. Salvatore: *Returns the kiss* “Don’t worry, this is more about how I’ll have company in being sober.” Rianne: “Company…,” *chuckles*, “surely you mean at dinner, yes?” Salvatore: “Of course! Didn’t realize the other interpretation until after I said it. Though on that topic, at least I hadn’t gotten ready for the bath yet, or that hug would have been awkward.” Rianne: “I don’t think the moment would have ended yet if you had.” Salvatore: “...” *blushes scarlet* “Uh… on a related topic, since you’re done drying off could you perhaps put some clothes on?” Rianne: “Perhaps, but are you sure you want me to?” Salvatore: “It’s only by sheer will that I’m looking at your face. Of course I want the temptations gone.” Rianne: “Well, it might be I like you looking at me like that,” Rianne says, before immediately putting her hand over her mouth and blushing a very deep red. Salvatore: *stunned silence* “What? At your face, right?” Rianne: “...No, I had meant at me,” Rianne says, her blush unfading, “...Perhaps I should dress now,” she says, as she begins dressing. Salvatore: “Yes, please. It’s going to be embarrassing enough talking to you again after this” *intense blush* “Could we maybe arrange some more conversations, only in controlled circumstances?” Rianne: *still blushing as she dresses* “I’m...not sure why I said that, though I won’t lie; a part of me meant it.” Salvatore: “Uh… yes… um… *still blushing* How about more controlled circumstances, like a dinner without that never-eat Ioun Stone of yours?” Rianne: Rianne stops dressing for a moment. “That stone stays,” she says, resuming dressing, “Not needing food or drink, while the primary function of the stone, is not why I carry it.” Salvatore: “Oh, right! That stone. Strange how a side-effect is why someone would carry something. Uh, when you’re done dressing, could you leave so that I can get ready for my bath? I’m not as comfortable with the seen-naked thing as you are.” Rianne: “So you want to continue to treat me to dinner even with that; do you want me to gain weight? Do you think I’m too skinny?” Salvatore: “Well, what other controlled activities can you think of?” Rianne: “You dodged my question,” Rianne says as she slips her skirt on, finishing with her clothing. Salvatore: “No, you don’t look too skinny.” Rianne: “So you did look at my body then. Salvatore: “Your tunic isn’t that loose.” *blushes* Rianne: “While its not that loose,” Rianne says, as she begins to brush out her hair, “...well alright it is a little form-fitting.” Salvatore: “On another note, no one need ever hear about this incident, right?” Rianne: “Of course not. Why would others need to know?” Salvatore: “Just a little nervous about that possibility. And all that’s left before you’re dressed is your jewelry, right? After that, could you leave so I can prepare for my bath?” Rianne: “So you want me to leave now that I’m almost done? Well then,” she says, and begins to remove her stockings, “maybe I shouldn’t dress.” *giggles, blushes* Salvatore: *massive blush* “What are you-- Why-- Please, stop, and ---” *cuts off, sputtering a bit* Rianne: *stops undressing and giggles uncontrollably, her face turning very red* Salvatore: “You’re--- you’re teasing me, aren’t you?” Rianne: *calms down, face still red* “Yes. Your reaction was really,” *giggles* “funny. Sorry.” *giggles* Salvatore: “Is there any way for my reaction to possibly be anything else?” Rianne: “You could get,” *giggles*, “used to the idea of seeing me without clothing.” *giggles* Salvatore: *blushes purple* “Wait… did you just suggest posing naked in front of me for extended durations?” *mouth remains moving, but no sound is coming out* Rianne: *blush becomes purple; giggles* “Oh dear, I think I might have accidentally suggested that” *giggles uncontrollably* Salvatore: “What did you mean, then? And I can’t think of what to talk about if that were to happen, so there’d be no reason to look at you, so I’d probably just turn aside. Unless you have some way of magically compelling me to look, that is… I guess I could lower my mental defenses if that’s the case.” *covers mouth* Rianne: *slowly calms down, with her blush fading to a light red* “Well, I did say it in jest, but if you want to go forward with that I could stay here nude as you bathe.” Salvatore: “Oh, joking. Phew. I was a bit worried there… No, uh, please leave as soon as you get your stockings and jewelry back on.” *blush fades to scarlet* Rianne: “What,” she says, as she puts her stockings on again, “you would have been okay with it if I wasn’t joking?” *begins to put earrings in* Salvatore: “I was trying to come up with an excuse to not do it in the form of the magical compulsion requirement - it is there, though. You don’t have any spells that could do that, right?” Rianne: “Actually, I do,” she says as she continues to put her jewelry on. Salvatore: “... Oh. Well, then fortunate for me you were joking, or I’d have been trapped in my own words. What spell is it?” Rianne: “It doesn’t matter; I wouldn’t put you through that,” Rianne says as she finishes putting her jewelry on. Salvatore: “Thank you.” *blushes* “Now, uh… can you leave so I can get ready for my bath?” Rianne: “Sure, sure,” she says, and gives Salvatore a kiss as she leaves. Salvatore: *Returns kiss* *Locks door after Rianne leaves* “... Yes, I really need to soak my head…” fin

Dinner, Evening of Day 8
Salvatore: “Good evening, Rianne. You’re looking as beautiful as ever.” Then Salvatore whispers, “At least what I can see of you is,” and blushes slightly. Rianne: “While you didn’t see the rest for long, if you had you would know it is in similar form.” Salvatore: *blush* “Ah, yes… Anyway, I’m pleased you can join me for dinner.” Rianne: *smiles* “I will always make time for you.” Salvatore: *smiles back* “Though … I feel this topic must be broached, but there is never a good time to do so… I’m not quite certain about certain flirtations from … not long ago, by the bath. As in, not quite certain what to think of one in particular - the one about moments and not ending then.” Rianne: “If you recall, you were the one who started that moment” *giggles* Salvatore: *laughs briefly* “Yes, but I was talking about your comment that it might not have ended… I’m not sure what to make of that in particular.” Rianne: *chuckles* “Do you need me to go into detail about what I meant by that comment?” Salvatore: *blush* “Uh… there are so many ways that could be interpreted… I was thinking along the lines of whether it was idle banter, joking around, or … more serious.” Rianne: “Hmm...I’m not entirely certain. Certainly some of it was the heat of the moment. It is rather nice to be held by you, you know. Hmm...I wasn’t really trying to joke either I suppose.” Salvatore: “Ah, it was on similar lines as what we both said the night before. But now that neither of us is drunk like we were then, perhaps we can discuss things without the, uh, rampant innuendo. Does that sound like a good idea? Rianne: “Sure. You weren’t planning to order any wine, were you?” Salvatore: “No, I wasn’t. If that night and morning after are any indication, it’s a recipe for troubles.” Rianne: “That’s good. You shouldn’t let me have too much, like you did then.” Salvatore: “Do you have any particular ideas about where we’re headed? This relationship, not the Guardians.” Rianne: “I would like to keep going forward with it, and for it to last. Wouldn’t you?” Salvatore: “Yes, I would… Even when all else perishes, love shall endure.” *kisses Rianne* Rianne: “I think that I might just love you Salvatore,” Rianne says and also gives Salvatore a kiss. Salvatore: *Briefly has a gleam in his eye* “And you’re sure this didn’t have anything to do with not asking me to leave that morning?” Rianne: “Did you mean later that morning? No, it doesn’t really have very much to do with that.” Salvatore: “I can hope, can’t I? *grins* … I’m not sure how I’m able to talk about this at all. Maybe being near you lets me open up a lot more than normally.” Rianne: “Strange, I could say the same about myself with you.” Salvatore: “Regardless, I’d rather avoid further incidents like (whispering, now) the bath, no matter how - ah - intriguing you were then. Ah, if I walk in on you like that again, I’ll immediately leave.” Rianne: *laughs, and also whispers* “You can call it what it is; we almost made love to each other.” Salvatore: *massive blush, whisper* “Yes, but… neither the time, nor the place, and I’m not sure I’m ready for ...” *more blush* Rianne: “You seemed plenty ready the other night,” *giggles* “Oh, I wish I’d stop doing that…” Salvatore: “There’s a distinct difference between a drunken heat of the moment and now.” Rianne: “Well, I also said some things then. But what do you think the difference is?” Salvatore: “We almost made a possibly life-changing choice then, but weren’t thinking it through. Granted, in this war, there’s not much time to think things through, and anything can happen to anyone. So even though there’s a distinct reason to make decisions quickly, ...“ *trails off, then seems to have a moment of realization* “Uh, where was I?” Rianne: “You were talking about decisions, I believe.” Salvatore: “Ah, right. Thanks. While there’s plenty of reason to make quick decisions, there’s also every reason to only do so while thinking, which I know I wasn’t.” Rianne: “And have you been thinking since then?” she asks smiling. Salvatore: “Mostly about how to recover from the complete lack of proper actions on my part the morning after. … Perhaps I should have started the conversation differently to start that process.” Rianne: “Hmm, well I do apologize for,” *giggles, and blushes as she giggles*, “tempting you so much.” Salvatore: *blush* “Well, even though that even was highly improper, it was pleasant…” *smiles* Rianne: *giggles* “Please stop making me do that.” Salvatore: *laughs* “And how would I go about that?” Rianne: “I’m not sure. But don’t you think its a little...immature when I giggle like that?” Salvatore: “I think it’s who you really are, just repressed a bit by your years of adventuring. Those years must have been quite serious. And it’s one of the loveliest sounds I’ve heard.” Rianne: *blushes* “Thank you. That’s sweet of you. I won’t try and stop then.” Salvatore: *kisses Rianne* “This has been a lovely night. A real shame that we’re almost done with our meals.” Rianne: “It is...and please don’t ask for it to last longer,” Rianne says and winks. Salvatore: *laughs* “I wasn’t going to.” Rianne: “Well, you had a perfect opportunity to.” *giggles* Salvatore: “I already mentioned… not quite sure about that… yet.” Rianne: *smiles* “I’m glad to know you are also thinking about our future.” Salvatore: “Yes… and this dinner has certainly given me ideas for what to do.” Rianne: “That’s good,” Rianne says as she finishes her meal. Standing she says, “Goodnight Salvatore,” and gives him a kiss. Salvatore: “Good night, Rianne” *returns the kiss*
*pause* Salvatore (alone): “Maybe I just need to nerve up a little…”
Later that evening: Salvatore (alone, in a jewelry shop): “Her fingers are about this wide around… Yes, that ring looks good.” fin

Lunch before Dinner 4, after Salvatore’s rescue.
Salvatore: “This lunch was originally intended for something other than what I’m about to say, but I can see there’s something on your mind. What’s made you so distant?” *Tucks a small, sturdy whitish box into his pocket* Rianne: “I was worried about you, that you would be alright.” Salvatore: “That’s… not it. Not entirely. Whatever made you distant … I noticed a little before our last dinner. You hid it well during dinner, but not entirely elsewhere. Was it something that happened? Something I did? Something else?” Rianne: “The otyugh the other day was not overly hostile; just different was all. But our views differed enough that we were not able to avoid conflict.” Salvatore: “I could argue that the diseases it could have spread - since we know it was willing to leave it’s place - were a threat to society, and that the problem needed to be dealt with immediately. But we didn’t know about that until after we started fighting it, I guess. So, I’ll stick with that it had stolen a body - that was needed - from a crypt, and that there seemed to be a very low chance of negotiating with it, since it seemed a little… out of things.” Rianne: “All otyughs are...different by our standards. That one was perfectly normal for what it was.” Salvatore: “I guess you know more about them than I do, but what about its theft, and trespassing in a crypt? Ignore for a moment us in the crypt with the Mohrgs; we were mislead into going there and didn’t take anything.” Rianne: “I wouldn’t say that I know much about them. This was only the second one I’ve seen, and it was as simplistic as the first one.” Salvatore: “You dodged the question.” Rianne: “Hadn’t you trespassed in a crypt before? Well, I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me if you haven’t.” Salvatore: *silence for a moment* “There’s … some point you’re trying to make, but for some reason, I can’t see it… And why do you refer to that as if it’s common for you?” Rianne: “Well, I’ve been in crypts several times before for my work, sometimes without explicit permission. In any case, the otyugh knew little of land ownership, much less respect for the departed.” Salvatore: “But were your quests there not on the side of justice? Did they not bring some more light into this world?” Rianne: “Sometimes they brought something to light. Other times they didn’t.” Salvatore: “There’s a point here, but I still can’t see it...” Rianne: “I think I’m just rambling at this point.” Salvatore: “Ok, so why shouldn’t we have fought the Otyugh? It was clearly in the wrong, and if it’d had a chance to surrender, or taken a chance it might have had, we’d have just grabbed the body and left it - since it apparently didn’t eat the body, so we didn’t need to retrieve it that way.” Rianne: “I don’t know.” Salvatore: “Yet you still feel we shouldn’t have… Why, I wonder...” *looks thoughtful* Rianne: “Perhaps I am thinking too deeply on it.” Salvatore: “No… I feel that there’s a very good reason you have… but I can’t see it. Why should we not fight things that attack our places of safety?” Rianne: “They too have the right to defend their places of safety. The otyugh did.” Salvatore: *stunned silence* Rianne: “I mean, I’m not saying we should have let it mug us. I guess I don’t know what to say about it really.” Salvatore: “... So, what should we have done, then?” Rianne: “I don’t know. I don’t know what we should have done differently, if anything..” Salvatore: “All those monsters… the Council of Thieves, the aberrations, the Demons and the Devils… they’re starting to blur together, now. It feels like it’s just ‘us’ and ‘them’ now. And why shouldn’t we destroy monsters?” Rianne: “You seemed somewhat eager to fight with the otyugh. You should not always look forward to killing something.” Salvatore: *pensive silence* “... I did, didn’t I…? *mouth moves, but silence* Does it look like I’m starting to fight to destroy rather than protect…?” Rianne: “You tell me.” Salvatore: “I… I… I have started to revel in the fight…” *gulps, shudders* “Do you think -- Have I started to become like what we fight?” Rianne: “Perhaps...but you will now be watching yourself for it, will you not?” Salvatore: “Yes… Yes, I must do this… Though, why didn’t you bring up the Otyugh during our last dinner?” Rianne: “I hadn’t thought about it as much then as I have now.” Salvatore: “... Ah. Thinking on other things? I know that feeling. During my late captivity, I thought mainly about you, instead of, say, escape.” *blush* “Uh, not in that way!” Rianne: *smiles* “Thanks Salvatore. That makes me glad.” Salvatore: “I’m glad it makes you glad… especially since it would have been so easy to offend if it had been in that way.” Rianne: “Wasn’t I usually the one who made the innuendos?” Salvatore: *blush* “That… didn’t come out right...” Rianne: “I hadn’t even thought of it that way until you brought it up.” Salvatore: “Perhaps we can go back to not thinking of it in that way? Maybe a safer topic, too?” Rianne: “You were intending this lunch for something different?” Salvatore: “I was, but you seemed a bit distant, and … after this conversation, I think it breast if I delay that until later. Er, BEST. Best if I delay that.” Rianne: *giggles* “Eyes up here. You did that on purpose, didn’t you?” Salvatore: *Blush* “No, I swear, that was an accident. … I’d hoped for this lunch to be a controlled circumstance after the incident half a week ago…” *sighs* “But at least that’s proof you do mind if looked at like that.” Rianne: “Not really; I just noticed you looking down when you made a slip of the tongue. “ *giggles* “What about it does not seem controlled to you? It seems to be controlled to me.” Salvatore: “That was the first - and, counting the future, probably only - time my eyes have slipped like that. As for controlled … It’s just… I was hoping to have a meal without any innuendo, yet for some reason, that plan’s sunk.” Rianne: *giggles* “Like your eyes.” Salvatore: *Blush* “Like they were. Emphasis on the past tense. Um, how about we change the topic?“ Rianne: “To?” Salvatore: “Perhaps about when we broke the siege on the Hellknights. When we fought the Council agents there, you summoned a demon. I… Why did you summon it? I thought you’d stopped with conjuring fiends.” Rianne: “No, I had decided to not attempt to call one again. Summoning one is different, I assure you.” Salvatore: “First, I shall answer this on a practical note. While it was effective, it’s still exposing your mind to evil energies, undermining our purpose - what would the people think if they saw someone summoning fiends, someone who wanted to rule the city? - and it is still inherently evil. There’s a reason Iomedae and the other gods of good forbid their priests from summoning fiends. Rianne: “I have been summoning creatures for years; I am fine. The summoned creatures are very controlled; as you know a summoned creature does only what its conjurer tells it. Failing the ability to communicate with it, it will only attack its conjurer’s enemies.” Salvatore: “That’s not the entire point. What if people learned about you summoning fiends? And what of the exposure of your mind to corrupt energies by the summoning?” Rianne: “I have also summoned azata and elementals these past few days. But I will remember what you said about demons when in a public location.” Salvatore: On a less practical note, and more spiritual… you seem to have started taking some lessons from The Acts, so … what do you think Iomedae would have done had she been the one to choose the summoned creature?” *pause* “True, she was a Paladin before ascending, not a Cleric, but that’s not the issue. The other issue is that a balance of good and evil - such as summoning one of each - is the worst-case situation that should ever be settled for. Yet, it is within your power to only summon celestials and elementals.” Rianne: “They are not always the tool most fit for the task at hand. Other times a certain variety of demon is best suited; other times it may not be.” Salvatore: “But… since you’ve been reading The Acts what do you think Iomedae would have chosen for the summons? After all, we should strive to emulate her perfection, should we not?” Rianne: “This is a leading question; we both know the answer to it. She would not have summoned fiends. She would also not have summoned azata.” Salvatore: “It was the way to introduce the question following. What of striving to attain the perfection of spirit and morality she had?” Rianne: “And that’s why it was a leading question. I assure you again, that it is doing me no harm when I summon a fiend. Though I will admit that speaking telepathically with demons is unnerving.” Salvatore: “Okay, perhaps you would know if it impacted your mind more than with the barest touch, so I’ll drop that. But the ends do not justify the means, no matter how suited to the task it was.” Rianne: “I don’t understand the distinction you are making with said means. I would understand if the demon had been called, but it wasn’t. It was summoned; nothing more. However, I will keep in mind what you have said about time and place.” Salvatore: “... I suppose that will do for now. But perhaps another topic would be best, now.” Rianne: “Hmm…” Salvatore: “Yes?” Rianne: “Salvatore, I hope you won’t be upset at me for asking, but just how did you become a cleric of Iomedae? Your life had...little room for practiced devotion...and so it seems a little odd to me.” Salvatore: “An Aasimar priest named Wesh… I don’t know his last name... found me. He cared for me for … a few months, before some thief killed him for a few gold. (Quietly: Damn it, he said he’d never leave me… damn that lie…). It was far less time than I needed to learn to cast spells… but I inherited his books, which included most of the knowledge I had when the Guardians, led by Claudio then, found me. During my captivity by the Drovenges, faith was all I could have, and I practiced in secret, and eventually learned to channel spells The Inheritor would give me.” Rianne: “...How long was it between Wesh passing, and the Drovenges, and how long between that and being found by the Guardians? ...Perhaps I am too curious.” Salvatore: “No… no, it’s fine. I met Wesh… when I was around sixteen. Just a few months later, I’d utterly failed at finding a way to survive, which is when the Drovenges pressed me into service. I escaped at about... twenty years old. The Guardians found me a couple weeks later, when I’d eaten the last of my scrounged food.” Rianne: “I am not able to relate to this very well. I will not tell you that I understand what you must have went through, because I don’t. I’m sorry I brought it up.” Salvatore: “I… I survived. The way things are going, I’m going to emerge victorious on that regard. My past is the past, and it’s influence is dying. The voices are dying, and my enemies with them. Don’t… Don’t feel pity for me. Don’t! Save it for the dead.” Rianne: *eats food in silence* Salvatore: “... Sorry I snapped at you. That was uncalled for, even… no, especially given my emotions there.” Rianne: “...Its alright; I forgive you. I shouldn’t have pried.” Salvatore: “Thank you. And it’s fine for you to be curious, curiosity is not a problem… Um, I think I might need to request another topic, though. Any other topic. Even the *blushes a little* breast topic.” Rianne: “What about mine?” Salvatore: “That… was a joke about my earlier misspeaking. I meant the conversation about, well, us, despite any chance of that being controlled having already been shot enough to be a pincushion.” Rianne: “I know it was a joke, as was my reply, and now you’ve followed up on it horribly,” Rianne says smiling. Salvatore: “Just because I’d rather forgo propriety than talk more about my past now… does not mean I’d rather abandon propriety entirely… Why do I always get so awkward around you?” Rianne: *giggles* “And I’m not this playful around anybody but you.” Salvatore: “... Playful? It’s all been teasing and jokes, right? None of your past innuendos were… serious, right?” Rianne: “Wait, you mean I really thought…” *begins laughing* Salvatore: *Blushes* “This is what I meant; why am I so awkward around you? I can usually understand what people mean in just a few seconds, at most… but...” *Blushes scarlet* Rianne: *calms down* “Yes, the innuendo has been in jest and teasing you. Just how loose did you think I am?” *giggles* Salvatore: *Blushes* “If that incident in …” Rianne: Rianne interrupts “That time we almost made love notwithstanding, of course.” Salvatore: “You were quite quick to dismiss that one… and that didn’t have the excuse of being drunk like the night before. Rianne: *blushing* “Well, apart from that then.” Salvatore: “Is that… Is that the second time you’ve blushed in all our conversations?” Rianne: “Anyways, I interrupted you. Continue.” Salvatore: “That incident was influential in thinking you were not just teasing, I will admit.” Rianne: “I know you’re going to blush again, but you were the one who chose to make it physical.” Salvatore: *blush* “You’re the one who didn’t care about being seen like that.” Rianne: “You keep coming back to that detail; you wouldn’t let me forget it then either.” Salvatore: “Well, it was influential in thinking some of what you said on similar topics had been serious.” Rianne: “Well, now you know.” Salvatore: “Yes, well. Back to the topic we almost got back to before that enlightening discussion, I hope? Back to the topic of… us.” Rianne: “Sorry for getting you off track. Go on.” Salvatore: “Well, I was wondering if you were wondering anything about this relationship, if you had any questions for me about it. I’ve already asked you most of what I want to know.” Rianne: “I really have no questions about it. I’ve also asked you most of what I want to know about you.” Salvatore: “Well, then… you’re looking lovely, today.” Rianne: “Are you sure you’re not just saying that?” Rianne asks, letting out a contented sigh, “You’ve said it...several times before.” Salvatore: “And it’s been true every one of them.” Rianne: *smiles* “I love you.” Salvatore: *Smiles, kisses Rianne* “I love you, too.” Rianne: *returns kiss* “It’s nice to hear that said, isn’t it?” Salvatore: “Yes… so hard to find love in the chaos of war, and yet, here we are.” Rianne: “Well, it wasn’t terribly hard; that vampire did not take near enough pains to remain hidden.” Salvatore: *Kisses Rianne* “Let us hope to never be parted, shall we?” Rianne: *returns kiss* “Never again.” Salvatore: “Perhaps we should have dinner again, tonight?” Rianne: “I’d love to.” Salvatore: *finishes meal* “I look forward to it.” Rianne: *smiles* “I do as well.” Salvatore: *Kisses Rianne, heads off to pay the tab*

Some hours after Lunch, the day Salvatore was rescued.
(Salvatore is bathing) Rianne: "...Well I suppose I wasn't expecting this. Hello Salvatore. Were you going to be in much longer?" Salvatore: “Eep! *blush* Hi, Rianne. Uh, I’ll be a bit longer, sorry. Not quite sure how long left.” Rianne: "...Did you want me to leave? I realize I am making you uncomfortable." Salvatore: “... No, you can stay. I’ve done some thinking about… things… lately. My captivity and near-vampirization made me think a bit.” Rianne: *locks door, and sits down next to the tub* “I’m glad that you’re alright.” Salvatore: “Though… why does it seem that a controlled environment is nearly impossible for our conversations? Not that I mind, now, since the voices are gone entirely… You and the others came for me… The voices only said that no one could help, but… you did. Everyone did.” Rianne: “I wouldn’t leave you,” she says as she begins to remove her stockings. Salvatore: *blushes lightly* “You’re getting ready for your bath already?” Rianne: “I see no reason not to, if you don’t mind,” she says as she begins to remove her jewelry. Salvatore: “Ahh… Alright. I think I might have gotten over some of my previous embarrassment at seeing you naked.” Rianne: “That’s good,” she says as she removes her tunic. Salvatore: “I’ve also had time to think about what to do, why, and when. I also think I know why I was much more embarrassed than I would have been when I walked in on you when you were bathing. Thinking was really helped by the old fight-or-flight. I could do neither, but it made me think quicker - but since I couldn’t fight or flee, I had to think about other things. ” Rianne: “What sort of things?” she asks as she gets her skirt off. Salvatore: “Ah… I’ll tell you over dinner after the bath? Can’t think of any old enemies who can ambush me this time - two in one day, wow.” Rianne: *giggles* “Alright, I can wait,” she says removes her undergarments Salvatore: “I’d say more, but wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise.” *smiles* Rianne: “Surprises are good,” she says, lifting up an Iomedaen holy symbol from her pile of jewelry, her tattoo of Nethy’s holy symbol still on her arm. Salvatore: “Ah, between the holy symbol you carry, and the one on your arm, not sure what to think.” *small blush* “... Other than the obvious, that I’m in here with a naked lady. Much more pleasant to be near than undead.” Rianne: “Hmm, oh I suppose I do still have that one. I guess I hadn’t thought about getting it removed.” Salvatore: “... OH! Wonderful news, and a pleasant surprise. So glad to have you join in. There’s always room for more!” Rianne: *smiles* “Well if you don’t mind, maybe I will sit in there with you.” Salvatore: *smiles* “Not the way I meant it, but if you want to come in, then sure.” Rianne: *gets into the tub, sitting next to Salvatore* “You really are more at ease.” Salvatore: “I’ve had time to think, to sort out my feelings. I’ve made some decisions that help. But yes.” Rianne: “Mhmm.” *puts an arm around Salvatore* “I prayed that you would be alright, and you were.” Salvatore: “Even in times of strife, there is hope. Iomedae willed my rescue, by providing you. And so were both our prayers answered.” Rianne: “I pray that nothing like that happens again.” Salvatore: “Has the whirlwind we’ve been in already made you feel peril to myself as if it were to yourself, as well?” *Kisses Rianne* “It feels like we’ve been in a whirlwind for the past while. But whirlwinds can be good sometimes, right? Let’s hope to always be there for each other, however the wind blows. We make each other stronger, braver…and more open, don’t we… we’ve felt it happen, haven’t we?” Rianne: “You always know the right thing to say,” Rianne says, as she puts her other arm around Salvatore, and gives him a kiss. Salvatore: *returns the hug* “Ah, but let’s not go much further than hugs in here. There is a reason for this, which I will give over dinner. But it has to do with something important.” Rianne: “Well, you were the one who said I could join you,” she says and kisses Salvatore on the lips, tracing the arc of his back with one hand. Salvatore: *Returns the kiss* “Indeed, I said you could come in. But, please. Let us both have restraint just now.“ Rianne: “Oh, are you certain?” she asks, continuing to to trace Salvatore’s back. Salvatore: “Circumstances and I may thrown propriety out the window multiple times, but there is one very good reason for this request of restraint.” Rianne: “You say that, but we haven’t let go of each other yet.” Salvatore: *Lets go, slowly* “Ah, and I’m starting to wrinkle… Looks like I’m done for now. Shall I stay in the room, though?” Rianne: “You could escort me to dinner if you did,” *also slowly lets go* Salvatore: “Of course!” *Gets out, starts drying* Rianne: *lets out a contented sigh, and begins to wash her hair* Salvatore: *Begins to dress* “You look as beautiful as ever.” Rianne: “Thank you. Have I also told you that you look very handsome?” Salvatore: *Leans around to kiss Rianne* *laughs* “Thank you.” Rianne: *whispers* “Love you.” Salvatore: *whispers* “Love you, too.” *Resumes dressing* Rianne: *continues washing hair* Salvatore: “Hmm. Do you see a box about 2 inches long on each side? *seems a little panicked* I think I might have misplaced it in here.” Rianne: “It might be under my clothes,” Rianne says, as she finishes rinsing her hair Salvatore: “Ah, do you mind if I search for it there, then?” Rianne: “Feel free to.” *begins to lather herself with bar soap* Salvatore: Salvatore rummages a short while, then pulls out a small whitish box .“Ah, here it is,” he says. Rianne: “Glad you found it.” Salvatore: “I need this box for dinner soon. It would have been a dire problem if it went missing for long.” Rianne: “Good thing you found it then; sorry for hiding it.” Salvatore: *laughs* “Don’t worry about it.” *laughs some more* Rianne: “What’s so funny?” Salvatore: “Mostly relief at finding it, but there was a little irony in where it was.” Rianne: “Oh?” Salvatore: “You’ll find out at dinner.” *smiles* Rianne: “Well, you’ve certainly made me excited for dinner.” Salvatore: “I can’t wait either…”
One Sorceress’s bath later... Rianne: “Well, I’m ready for dinner now. Thanks for waiting.” Salvatore: “Let’s go, then.” *hugs Rianne briefly* Rianne: *after hugging Salvatore, links arms with him* ‘Lead the way.” Salvatore: “Of course, my lady.”

Evening of the day of Salvatore’s rescue.
(Salvatore and Rianne are at a table) Rianne: “No wine at the table; good.” Salvatore: “Indeed not, despite how fitting it would be for this event.” Rianne: “So, what is the surprise that you’ve been saving?” Salvatore: “It’s something I’ve been coming to for the past week… and before then, but I didn’t realize at the time. But first, I have a question… Where do you see this … us... going, now? Rianne: “I feel that we may be ready for the next step; don’t you?” Salvatore: *small blush* “Ah, next step -- I’m drawing a blank on anything but uh -- what did you mean?” Rianne: *rolls eyes* “I meant engagement.” Salvatore: “Oh! right. Not sure how I forgot about that possibility.” Rianne: “I’m a little surprised that you would let that slip your mind.” *giggles* Salvatore: “I’m surprised, too, especially since I promised to mention something over dinner as well. Shall we get to that, now?” Rianne: *smiles* “Go on.” Salvatore: “The surprise is in *pulls out the small whitish box* here. Would you like to see the surprise within?” Rianne: “That box looks familiar. Yes, I’d like to see it.” Salvatore: Salvatore opens the box, giving Rianne a clear view of an elegant ring. “The only word to describe my feelings for you is love. I didn’t realize at first, which is why I got flustered quite so easily. But recently, I have realized my feelings for what they are. Rianne Tulles… will you marry me?” Rianne: “You already know the answer; of course I will,” and smiles. Salvatore: *Kisses Rianne, puts the ring on her finger* “Wonderful! This is so exciting! The happiest day of my life.” Rianne: *returns the kiss* “...Mine too. I would have never thought I’d be this happy to be engaged.” Salvatore: *blushes a little* “This is also why I suggested some restraint not long ago - then, it would have been less special.” Rianne: “Mhm. It would have indeed.” Salvatore: *Lowers voice* “Remember two dinners ago? Something that may have been prophetic of tonight?” *laughs quietly with pure mirth* Rianne: *smiles* “Your room or mine?” Salvatore: *smiles* “Probably best to not have to lug heavy armor from one room to another. Mine.” Rianne: *smiles* “I’ve only got two bags in my room; I’ll bring them to your room after dinner.” Salvatore: “I’ll carry them for you. I’m almost done, so I can do that soon, if you want.” Rianne: *giggles* “If you insist. I’m done eating whenever you are.” Salvatore: “I’ll pay the tab, then, and see you upstairs.” Rianne: “Alright” Salvatore: *Upstairs, after luggage* “Well, looks like “in nothing” and “horizontal” were spot-on. Or are about to be.” Rianne: *locks door, giggles* curtain
The next morning: Salvatore: (when Rianne wakes, her head on his chest) “You’re a bad influence on me, you know - if anyone were to attack, then I’d have to fight them while naked!” *laughs and smiles* Rianne: *smiles* “And I’m sure you would do a good job of it,” she says before giving Salvatore a kiss on the lips. Salvatore: *returns kiss* “Yes, though I guess you’d also have to fight like that, so maybe it evens out?” Rianne: “So it would seem,” she says, as she begins to run her hand through Salvatore’s hair. Salvatore: “(whispers: Love you) Well, the sun’s up, so someone’s probably going to wonder where we are. We should probably dress now.” Rianne: “They can be left wondering a while longer,” she says, putting her arms around Salvatore, “I’m a bad influence on you, remember?” Salvatore: *Laughs* “Another half an hour, then.” *kisses Rianne*
