"I...I did not mean that there is no choice involved; there are indeed...critical junctures or...critical periods of time where one makes choices. But...enough of that."
"...While none of us will ever know the circumstances of it, I do not believe your parents gave you up willingly. For that child, that man to be strong enough to continue to make the choices he did, despite his environment. For that, I believe that your parents were strong individuals, and would not have given you willingly...and for that and everything else you have my condolences."
Rianne sits down, and then says, "But my word. I thought being a bastard praised in private, and then shoved into inheriting in my fathers final years was terrible. It was constant pressure, and it only got worse in those last years. But I have little right to feel that way again though...I needed to hear what you had to say it seems."

"... I ... probably should not have mentioned my past as I did... But... I survived; there's no need for ... pity or condolences; I won, and outlasted Vassindio, and it's done now. It's just ... let's let the topic of my past rest, please..."
"Oh, just remembered..." Salvatore starts using Ant Haul and the Pearls of Power.

Encindal simply nodded solemnly and said "Dang, seems like you two have had your fair share of troubles...though I don't know why you'd throw away what must have been a large sum of cash Rianne."

"Eh, its fine Salvatore. I don't think any less of you for sharing, or for your past," Rianne says, crossing her legs.
She sighs, and says, "It was a relatively small amount of money; only a few thousand gold by the time I inherited. As I said," she says, as she nods at Salvatore, "a relatively small amount of money. My father's wife passed away three years before he did; when this happened he stopped hiding me, and accepted that I would inherit. However, when I did, I saw little reason to preside over our noble house as it finished its decline into nothingness."
"And so I dissolved it and left, joining the Pathfinder Society. I'm not sure what I would have done if I had not joined the Society, though I do know that this last decade of my life would have been far less interesting." She shrugs and says, "I'm not going to be an active agent again, but oh well. I am alright with that now."

"... This city needs us. I think we should probably put our pasts behind us for now... and concentrate on the task at hand. Could someone help me into my armor?"

Rianne stands and says, "Sure, I'll help you with it Salvatore. As we are doing this, we also need to discuss what we will be doing today."

"Encindal... there's something I need to tell Rianne alone, so could you leave for a couple minutes?"

"Very Well, I need to summon Nora again anyways. I guess I'll meet you in the lobby area when you're ready to go!" Encindal said. Then he went out of the room to his new summoning room and started preparing for the battles ahead.

as soon as Encindal leaves: "Rianne... do you know why I'm supporting your attempt to rule in this city, and why I didn't try and take it for myself? It goes back to those instincts I mentioned, the ones screaming everyone will betray me or leave me... you're the only one they don't yell at me about. Oh, they've quited some for a few... but you're the only one they're silent about."

Salvatore pauses for a moment... "But I think you said something about planning? What do you think we need to do first?"

"...Oh, sorry. Yes, planning for what we will do today. Of course. I'll just go grab Encindal first," Rianne says, and then leave the room, returning moments later after she has told Encindal that its time to plan what we are doing this day. Encindal also enters shortly later.

"So, first order of business is getting guards back on the streets... we need to talk to the Martis family and to the Hellknights... which one do you think is better to go to first?"

"The Hellknights first. It would be good to first what we can of the circumstances of the previous leader of the Dotari's death."

"Ah, yes. Ok, but perhaps we should have a way to try and go incognito to try and learn what we can that way, first."

"Agreed. I had some supplies purchased for this purpose yesterday. I will explain more of it on the way."
"As for the dottari, we will wish to get a Martis leading them today." Rianne pauses, and then continues, "It seems likely that the dottari's funding has been halted or heavily impacted by recent events. After the Martis family member has had enough time to begin organizing the dottari and their financial footing, so tomorrow, we should make another visit to him. It would be in our best interests to provide funding to the dottari. Not only would it ensure the dottari is able to act, it would also strengthen our position for control of Westcrown."

"All right, but we should probably broach the subject cautiously with them."

"Indeed. Another place that we should go today is the church of Asmodeus. If we were to gain the favor of its head priest, or other members of its leadership, that would be useful. I have thought about it, and they seem our best option if wish to be formally appointed for control of Westcrown. They understand the system and have clout; they would be able to ensure that such a request is listened to," Rianne pauses, and then says, "However, I feel that it is likely they will request something of us in return. Possibly future favors."
"What are your thoughts on this?"

"I'm loathe to work with them... but the results would probably speak for themselves... Yes, and those future favors would be a problem. We might want to come up with some way to mitigate that. Any ideas?"

"Eh, I really don't want to work with devils or their worshippers. Need I remind you that this whole mess was started by a devil's contract? Suffice to say any favors we get from them are going to hurt us in the long run. I'd say just don't bother dealing with them, heck I'd drive them out of the city!"
"I don't know," Nora remarked "I mean, yes we don't want to enter any contracts, but we need as much support as we can get to take over the city. If it turns out later that they want to call in the favor, just throw them out! It's not like pieces of paper actually mean anything after all, they're a human-spawn invention."

"Technically, the devil's contract was part of the mess, not even the cause. The Council of Thieves was behind this. Driving them out would be highly impractical, and Nora... part of humans making contracts on paper is to affirm that yes, we intend to do what's on it."
"I'd much rather trying a favor up front, and getting their help after that, so we're never in debt to them."
