What do you do? (IRC roleplay or here, introducing a new character).

The Minor Noble Houses of Acervum
The aristocratic families of Acervum: 114 in all. I won't bother naming them now. There's one for just about anything.
Yes, this is a port city. It imports most of its food from the southern (including equitorial) parts of the empire (this is maybe 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up north). Brencis leads in a way that doesn't please many, but that gets the job done.
EDIT: Food supplies
[21:49:22] <Game_Master> during the winter, it's often preserved meat by roads
[21:49:25] <Game_Master> and granaries
[21:49:51] <Game_Master> during the spring, same, though ships come north with some early-grown crops, magically preserved
[21:50:18] <Game_Master> summer, the equitorial and southern hemisphere have been productive, so they ship food up
[21:50:26] <Game_Master> fall, mostly by roads from nearby cities
[21:50:37] <Game_Master> and from the farms the city itself has
[21:50:49] <Game_Master> though the northern farms are generally a buffer against famine, not the primary food supply

The Major Noble Houses of Acervum
There are seven in all
Splendentium, which years ago partly joined with the Royal line (though the rest of them are in Ironhelm)
Canis, a junior house to Lupi
Tenabrae, a tiefling house with a sinister reputation
Ludio, an often-ifrit house led by Governor Brencis Ludio, who is a rare human in said house.
Letum, a white-dragonblood house with only three remaining members, all who are rather old, but deceptively spry for their years
Novum, a rare house with no dragon or outsider blood in it, having been promoted to nobility after working at it tooth and nail
Mort, a house with only one member, a lich who prefers to keep mobs terrified of him than simply hide who he is

Dahanian, a red dragonblood house that has made a few too many enemies by reason of their foul tempers
Aurum, a house that controls much of the market.
Argen, a house that maintains a silver mine used as a prison.
