Adrasteia shrugs, "Being in an actual battle was a new experience I guess, but I still prefer solo operations"

"Best day ever!" Loric seems exhilarated after the long day.
"This battle experience was so educational. I now understand that one needs to favor backhand swings when wearing cumbersome armor. This is totally different from the dagger lessons we had at the university. I still don't grasp how to cast spells with both hands full and armor hindering upper arm movements..."
"Also Oros, I don't recall our breath being ever this strong. Perhaps Hope has actually passed some of his power to us... Something to research, definitely." Loric seems to be thinking of something deeply.

"Well he did imply as much, Loric... Though it still perplexes me why Hope chose our motley crew to receive his blessing... And his prophecy."

Loric shrugs. "Well, Iomedae's the mightiest Deity still. Hope must work on her bidding. Nevertheless, this is a matter I must research if only for the sake of keeping my worldview coherent."
After thinking for a bit he adds: "...Adrasteia, was it? Have you had solo operation experience, then? I thought we all were fresh recruits."

Oros rolls his eyes at Loric's remarks about Iomedae, suspecting his friend was largely doing it to elicit a response from him because of he and his family's long-held, vocal worship of Apsu.

Adrasteia eyes Loric carefully "Yes, I have had a fair bit of experience in solo operations, and I also don't consider myself a 'fresh recruit'. "I spent a long time surviving on my own, so I guess im not used to fighting with a team".

12:16 * Loric is sitting by a writing desk staring at an empty paper while the others are conversing in the common room 12:17 <@Loric> Adrasteia's answer caused him to look up from the paper 12:17 <@Loric> "Have you been a mercenary, then?" 12:18 < Adrasteia> "You could call it that however, money was never the reason" 12:19 < Adrasteia> "But yes, I was hired here to do a job" 12:19 <@Loric> "Hmm... You wielded divine power during the fight." 12:19 <@Loric> "Perhaps you championed a couse of a deity?" 12:20 <@Loric> "A crusade, maybe?" 12:20 < Adrasteia> "Yes, I champion Calistria, goddess of revenge" 12:21 <@Loric> "Ah, fascinating." 12:21 < Adrasteia> "I see you wield magic" 12:21 <@Loric> "Perhaps your past journeys have been a mission to pursue vengeance appointed by Calistria?" 12:21 <@Loric> "Well..." 12:22 <@Loric> "I studied magic in the royal university" 12:22 < Adrasteia> "maybe, you could look at it like that, although my quest is my own" 12:22 <@Loric> "Hmm..." 12:23 <@Loric> "A personal quest of vengeance..." 12:23 * Loric drums his fingers on the table 12:23 <@Loric> "I have not studied theology of Calistria much." 12:24 < Adrasteia> "I only have a passing knowledge, I devote myself more to her central ideal more than anything else", I confess 12:24 <@Loric> "Are you a proxy to bring Calistria's vengeance upon those that have wronged you or does Calistria give you full license to take vengeance on a way you see fit?" 12:25 < Adrasteia> "I bring vegeance upon those that wrong me, and upon those that wrong others the way I was wronged" 12:25 <@Loric> "I have studied some comparative theology." 12:26 <@Loric> "Fascinating." 12:26 <@Loric> "A different approach to divine retribution and judgment than usual." 12:27 <@Loric> "Would Calistria hold her hand in delivering vengeance upon those who want to make amends for their actions?" 12:27 * Adrasteia smiles slightly 12:27 <@Loric> "And what about you?" 12:28 < Adrasteia> "Against those that wronged others.... then perhapes I can accept them wanting amends" 12:28 < Adrasteia> "For those that wronged me however, there is no forgiving that" 12:28 <@Loric> "...I can see where that train of thought leads." 12:28 * Loric looks thoughtful 12:28 <@Loric> "Clearly Calistria grants much freedom for those who serve her." 12:29 <@Loric> "I myself follow Iomedae." 12:29 <@Loric> "Her tenets, while leaving room for personal interpretation, are much more accurate than what you have described with Calistria." 12:30 < Adrasteia> "So you hold yourself to the law?" 12:30 <@Loric> "Calistria's tenets seem to make sense for me, but I'm not sure about the ultimate purpose of vengeance." 12:30 <@Loric> "Is vengeance valuable in itself or does vengeance serve some other purpose?" 12:31 <@Loric> "Yes, I hold myself to the laws that I have accepted to bind me." 12:31 < Adrasteia> "I don't know if my vengeance would be valuable to me, I have been denied it so far" 12:31 <@Loric> "If I have accepted authority of a law system, I hold onto all it contains even if I do not agree to all of its commands. That is the price of voluntary following." 12:32 < Adrasteia> "What happens when the law is powerless?" 12:32 <@Loric> "Such commitment can indeed give life purpose, I can see that... But I have little life experience to give insight..." 12:32 <@Loric> "When the law is powerless, we must turn directly to the divine." 12:32 <@Loric> "Seeking guidance and power." 12:33 * Adrasteia thinks for a bit 12:33 <@Loric> "But I think we must be down to earth even in this matter." 12:34 < Adrasteia> "I think the law failed me", she mutters to herself 12:34 <@Loric> "Law is theoretical in its essence." 12:34 <@Loric> "It is as fallible as those who keep and enforce it, barring the divine." 12:34 <@Loric> "Oh, I'm sorry." 12:35 <@Loric> "How were you wronged?" 12:36 < Adrasteia> "A group of mages took me and my father hostage" 12:36 * Loric O_O 12:37 < Adrasteia> "They did things to me I won't repeat, and then when I couldn't take anymore, they healed me so they could continue again" 12:37 < Adrasteia> "then they killed my father" 12:37 * Adrasteia tightens hands on her bow 12:38 < Adrasteia> "They let me live, so I could find a campanion, and then they could return and do it all again" 12:38 < Adrasteia> companion* 12:39 < Adrasteia> "Then they left" 12:39 <@Loric> "..." 12:39 < Adrasteia> "As far as I know, they are alive, and unharmed" 12:39 <@Loric> "That's the most evil thing I've heard happening to an alive person." 12:39 < Adrasteia> "While I still suffer the memories of this" 12:39 < Adrasteia> "Where is justice in that?" 12:40 <@Loric> "Well, they will get their punishment upon death at least..." 12:40 <@Loric> "But if they are still alive..." 12:41 < Adrasteia> "If I could even find them" 12:41 * Adrasteia pulls out her battered notebook 12:41 <@Loric> "I'm not fond of vengeance but there seems to be something more here." 12:41 < Adrasteia> "this is all I have on them" 12:41 <@Loric> "This sounds like a planned plot that's bound to carry on in its evilness unless stopped." 12:42 <@Loric> "Can I take a look?" 12:42 < Adrasteia> "Sure" 12:42 * Adrasteia hands it over 12:43 <@Loric> "If they are still on the loose, they pose a danger to people." 12:43 <@Loric> "And therefore must be stopped." 12:43 * Loric skims over the logbook 12:43 < Adrasteia> (You see pages of data, not just limiting itself to the mages, but notes on arcane casters themselves, weaknesses, strengths, possible tactics, etc) 12:44 <@Loric> "...frighteningly accurate notes on weaknesses of arcane casters." 12:44 * Adrasteia shrugs 12:44 <@Loric> "But from what I gather..." 12:44 < Adrasteia> "I needed an edge" 12:44 <@Loric> "You are at loss on their whereabouts, motifs and plans?" 12:45 < Adrasteia> "Thats correct" 12:45 * Loric smiles 12:45 <@Loric> "Guess what." 12:45 <@Loric> "I have some connections to the royal archives." 12:45 < Adrasteia> "Really?" 12:45 <@Loric> "When we get back to the capital, I'll see if I can pull some strings to get you access there." 12:46 < Adrasteia> "Wow, thank you so much" 12:46 * Adrasteia is overjoyed 12:46 <@Loric> "Perhaps there is some intel that'd help you track them down." 12:46 < Adrasteia> but also slightly anxious 12:46 <@Loric> "Just please do not pursue this alone." 12:46 <@Loric> "I and the others are here to help you, besides taking them on alone would be risky." 12:47 < Adrasteia> "Before, I would have ignored that advice, but for these enemies, I might need assistance" 12:47 <@Loric> "I'm glad to hear that." 12:47 < Adrasteia> "I would hate putting you and others in harms way though" 12:47 < Adrasteia> "Just for my own quest" 12:48 <@Loric> "Hmm, this is something I am researcning myself at the moment." 12:48 <@Loric> "Protection and harm." 12:48 < Adrasteia> "oh?" 12:48 <@Loric> "Iomedae has shown me a path that will lead me to protecting those close to me." 12:49 <@Loric> "She asked me to join her paladins." 12:49 * Adrasteia raises an eyebrow 12:49 <@Loric> "When I take that up, I will be able to protect those close to me better than now." 12:49 <@Loric> "You included, Adrasteia." 12:49 < Adrasteia> "You are not like the other mages I have met" 12:50 <@Loric> "But I do not know what it is in particular that Iomedae expects of me." 12:50 <@Loric> "Well, I do not think of myself as a mage." 12:50 <@Loric> "To be honest, I have all my life looked up to the warriors and heroes of old." 12:50 <@Loric> "Not scholars and sages." 12:50 <@Loric> "That's my sister who's into those!" 12:51 < Adrasteia> "Where is your sister now?" 12:51 <@Loric> "She's back at the capital, studying." 12:51 <@Loric> "She's many years younger than me, but a very talented mage." 12:51 * Adrasteia smiles shyly 12:51 < Adrasteia> "maybe you could introduce me?" 12:51 <@Loric> "...probably could have written my thesis already..." 12:52 <@Loric> "Sure." 12:52 <@Loric> "That's another thing to do when we visit the capital."

It's a nondescript room with soldiers chattering. No furniture, but that conversation can take place later.

Raijin stood in the corner, looking on at the crowd. He thought a bit about Hope's prophecy. Why would Hope, whatever he was, grant power to him of all people? Well, regardless of the reason, it seemed that his life would be a lot more interesting from now on. He made his way over to a deserted corner, pulled out a small book, and began reading from it.

As you leave the report-in room, a man appears before you, wearing two holy symbols. Local/Arcana/Religion rolls, untrained allowed. He speaks in a slightly resonating voice, "So... you're the ones... I thought you'd be stronger of mind and body... well, everyone starts weak, I guess."

Despite paying almost no attention whatsoever, Oros recognizes that the the less-prominent token holy symbol is of Apsu DC 10: Religion Holy symbols are of Iomedae and Apsu Arcana Although he has many humanoid aspects, he is making no effort to hide his draconic nature from you Local He is definitely not human, though from a further distance, he would appear that way. DC 15 (trained): Religion (Loric, too) The symbol of Iomedae is much more prominent than the one of Apsu, which seems to be a token, much like lip service would be. Arcana Dragon Local He is not someone of great renown that you can recognize. DC 20 (trained): Religion Peace Through Vigilance Arcana GOLD dragon, age cannot be determined Local Someone with his appearance would have been heard of before.
